The Patek Philippe 5236P-001 Inline Perpetual Calendar Grand Complication is full of historical allure, with inspiration taken from various models of the past. The inline day/date/month display is a Patek Philippe tradition.

Launched in 2021 and cast in platinum to further emphasise its credentials, this timepiece measures 41mm in diameter and 11mm thick. It’s as impressive to wear as it is to look at. The sloped bezel softens the diameter and helps it wear a little smaller, and of course, it's all finished to a high polish. The eagle-eyed will spot the diamond inlaid between the bottom lugs, a modern-day Patek signature reserved for platinum watches.

The graduated blue dial stands out with a grained finish and darker hues towards the edge. Faceted white gold hands and indices contrast perfectly against the darker dial. The perpetual calendar system can handle long/short months and leap years, requiring no resetting until 2100. At the bottom of the dial is the radial moon phase and small seconds counter, all finished off with the day/night indicator and leap year indicator. All of this is paired with a blue calfskin strap, bolstered for comfort and presented with a platinum deployment clasp and Calatrava cross, completing the aesthetic.

All of this is powered by the remodeled 31-260 movement, which is a beauty to behold. The larger mainspring provides more torque through the movement, and the platinum rotor is denser and winds more efficiently as a result, despite its smaller size. All of this contributes to its impressive 48-hour power reserve.
